CYLINDER HEAD ASSEMBLY REPAIR (CONT). b.Cleaning/Inspection.(1)Clean injector nozzle seats with nylon tubebrush.W A R N I N GCompressed air used for cleaning purposesmust not exceed 30 psi (207 kPa). Useonly with effective chip guarding andpersonal protective equipment(goggles/shield, gloves, etc).Wash cylinder head in hot water and soapfor 30 minutes. Rinse and use compressedair to dry.Check cylinder head for nicks, erosion,cracks, and other damage.Polish gasket surface of cylinder headusing 400 grit waterproof silicon carbideabrasive paper.(2)(3)(4)(5)(6)(7)(8)(9)Check cylinder head deck for distortion as indicated. Distortion can be no greater than 0.0039 in. (0.010mm) within a 2 in. (50.8 mm) radius (distance A) or no greater than 0.003 in. (0.075 mm) end to end.Check valve guides in cylinder head forscuffing or scoring. Ream valve guides toremove any surface damage.Measure valve guide bores at positions Band C. Normal measurement is 0.3157 to0.3185 in. (8.019 - 8.089 mm). If less thannormal, rebore valve guide. If greater thannormal, replace cylinder head.Clean valve heads with a soft wire wheel.Clean and polish valve stem with crocuscloth. Remark valves according to headlocation.NOTEWhen replacing old valves, remember tomark new valves the same for correctassembly.(10)Check for abnormal wear on valve heads and stems. Replace valves that are bent or cannot be ground.5-132
