5-74. REAR BEARING, HUB, AND BRAKE DRUM REPLACEMENT (CONT).
Hub and brake drum assembly weighs 175 lb (80 kg). Attach suitable lifting device prior to installation
to prevent possible injury to personnel.
(5) While mechanic operates suitable lifting device, assistant guides hub and drum assembly (2) onto
spindle (4).
NOTE
Be sure to align a hole in adjusting nut to a spline on the spindle.
(6) Install outer bearing (3) and adjusting nut (1). Tighten nut 200 to 250 lb-ft (271 - 339 Nm), then back off
nut 1/8 turn. Rotate hub to be sure it revolves freely.
NOTE
Follow-on Maintenance: Install wheel end(s) and axle shaft(s) (para 5-65).
