If engine has recently been in operation, allow oil
mounted
time to cool before performing procedure.
Wrench, torque
Materials/Parts
Oil, engine lubricating (item 35, appendix E)
Solvent, drycleaning (item 54, appendix E)
a. Removal.
NOTE
Hold adjoining gears to obtain correct
backlash measurement.
(1) Measure oil pump gear (1) backlash at
position A. Normal measurement is 0.003 to
0.013 in. (0.08 - 0.33 mm). If above or below
normal measurement, replace oil pump.
(2) Measure idler gear (2) backlash at
position B. Normal measurement is 0.003 to
0.013 in. (0.08 - 0.33 mm). If above or below
normal measurement, replace oil pump.
